Film je odmah nakon premijere na festivalu u Cannesu proglašen remek-djelom, a temelji se na istoimenoj knjizi novinara Davida Granna. Film prati seriju ubojstava unutar indijanskog plemena Osage u Oklahomi 1920-ih godina. Osage su postali najbogatiji narod na svijetu nakon što je na njihovom teritoriju pronađena nafta.
