Izvorno aktivni od 1982. do 1997. godine, na čelu s pjevačem, tekstopiscem i multi-instrumentalistom Michaelom Girom, Swans kao jedan od ključnih bendova njujorške no wave scene, ostavljaju duboki trag, a svoju prepoznatljivost temelje na eksperimentalnim i repetitivnim strukturama pjesama te upečatljivim i beskompromisnim živim nastupima.
U 2010. godini, Gira reformira Swanse i u posljednjih 6 godina zajedno s ostakom benda na svjetlo dana donose četiri fantastična albuma ("My Father Will Guide Me up a Rope to the Sky" iz 2010., "The Seer" 2012., "To Be Kind" 2014., "The Glowing Man" 2016.).

Studijski savršeni, uživo nepredvidljivi i maestralno precizni u izvedbi, u svojim mnogim inkarnacijama ostavljaju publiku bez daha. Swansi se svrstavaju u jedan od najutjecajnih nezavisnih bendova svih vremena. Svojevrsnu glazbenu kulminaciju upravo doživljavaju s posljednjim albumom koji upotpunjuje posljednju iteraciju benda.
Naime, Gira je odlučio staviti točku na prekrasnu priču koju nam je podario s povratničkim Swansima, a kako najavljuje, ime Swans nastaviti će živjeti u novom formatu za koji još ni sam nije siguran kakav će biti. No jedno je sigurno, Swansi upravo u ovom formatu završavaju svoju priču posljednjom turnejom koja ih dovodi i na Impulse festival.
