Porijeklom iz Hirošime, Takamen je stekao reputaciju "najboljeg jazz gitarista kojeg je Japan ikada proizveo" kako ga hvali AllAboutJazz. Njegova je glazba inspirirana velikanima jazza i drugih glazbenicima kao što su Paul Simon, James Taylor, Jimi Hendrix i Eric Clapton, no sve te utjecaje stapa u nešto izrazito svoje.
Uz osam objavljenih albuma, Nobuki je sa svojom grupom bio na turnejama po Sjevernoj Americi i Europi, nastupajući u najboljim jazz klubovima te na festivalima uključujući Iridium Jazz Club, Blue Note NY, Blues Alley, Smalls Jazz Club, Montreal International Jazz Festival i Nišville Jazz Festival.
