Scenaristica i redateljica Paypal Kapadia filmom “Ljubav u Mumbaiju” s kojim je osvojila Grand Prix na festivalu u Cannesu, drugu po važnosti festivalsku nagradu nakon Zlatne palme, istražuje i slavi svjetlo, živote te teksturu modrne radničke klase Mumbaija.

Radnja filma fokusirana je na dvije cimerice koje zajedno rade u gradskoj bolnici - glavnu sestru Prabhu (Kani Kusruti) i novopridošlu sestru Anu (Divya Prabha) - te njihovu kolegicu, kuharicu Parvaty (Chhaya Kadam). Kapadijin film oslanja se na trenutke povezanosti i srcobolje, nade i razočaranja. Prabha je iskusna medicinska sestra kojoj se započinje upucavati doktor iz bolnice premda ona već ima supruga iz dogovorenog braka koji živi u dalekoj Njemačkoj. Anu se nalazi u romantičnoj vezi s Muslimanom koju skriva od svoje striktne obitelji. Parvaty se, pak, nalazi pred deložacijom iz vlastitog stana. Redateljica Kapadia jednakim sjajem prikazuje vrevu velegrada, ali i mir priobalnog sela artikuliranih vrhunskim glumačkim nastupima te fotografijom lirskog naturalizma.
