Multi-instrumentalistica i singer-songwriterica, Laura Gibson dolazi sa jugoistočne obale Oregona. Od izlaska njenog albuma "Beasts of Season" 2009., koji je NPR proglasio "remek-djelom", a Mojo "tiho poražavajućim, a istovremeno vraća životnu snagu", Gibsoničina karijera cvijeta, pa je tako bila manekenka u Japanskom modnom časopisu, primila gromoglasni aplauz publike sastavljene od osuđenih zatvorenika i tri i pol sata izvodila improvizirani art performans sa sound specijalistom Ethan Roseom i redateljem Ryan Jefferyjem. Trenutno priprema treći samostalni album koji će prema njenim riječima biti "najbolja stvar koju sam ikada napravila." 2014. preselila je iz Portlanda u New York studirati pisanje beletristike. Dio puta putovala je vlakom čije je ime Empire Builder iskoristila za ime svog novog albuma, koje označava novi početak u više pogleda. Nije uzalud moto novoga albuma Rilkeov citat "Moraš promijeniti svoj život!"

Empire Builder je prožet samostalnošću, ženstvenošću, samoćom, vezama i opet samoćom. Uz čistu savjest i toplinu, ovaj album uspješno hvata trenutak između gubitka i ponovnog pronalaska.
