Još početkom 90-ih otkrio ih je slavni Gilles Peterson. Braća Shuya i Yoshi Okino bavili su se DJ-anjem, a nakon Petersonovog poticaja, osnovali su duo Kyoto Jazz Massive te postali pioniri japanskog crossovera jazza i klupske glazbe. Oformivši bend, krenuli su i s live nastupima koji traju do danas. U srijedu, 27. studenog, Kyoto Jazz Massive stižu i u Peti Kupe u live izdanju!

Japanski pioniri objavilI su 1994. prvi kompilacijski CD pod nazivom "Kyoto Jazz Massive“, a 2000. i prvi singl "Eclipse“ pod okriljem poznate etikete Compost. Svjetsko priznanje doživio je njihov prvi album „Spirit of the Sun“ iz 2002. godine.

Od 2004. godine kao Kyoto Jazz Massive Live Set nastupaju diljem Europe i Azije. Uz svoje skladbe, KJM stalno izbacuju nove remikseve, što im je priskrbilo reputaciju vrlo traženih producenata. Kao DJ-i redovito sviraju ne samo u Japanu nego i diljem svijeta, posebno u Britaniji, Njemačkoj, Italiji, Francuskoj i SAD-u. Još pamtimo njihove nastupe u 2000-ima u sklopu kultnog programa Kontrapunkt.

Nakon dugo vremena vraćaju se u Zagreb isporučiti uživo svoj vrhunski spoj jazza i elektronike.
