“Ja, kapetan” epska je priča o tinejdžeru koji skupa sa svojim rođakom odluči napustiti Dakar u Senegalu te se zaputiti do Europe. Priča o Seydouu i Moussi moderna je odiseja u kojoj dvojica protagonista moraju nadvladati niz ozbiljnih prepreka. Tijekom svog putovanja primorani su učestalo se mijenjati, sve dok Seydou u konačnici ne postane junakom.
