Country pjesme Dale je počeo je pisati kao dvanaestogodišnjak da bi po svršetku srednje škole sedam godina svirao po klubovima i honky tonk barovima. Nekoliko je godina proveo u Los Angelesu i u Nashvilleu iz kojeg ranih 90-ih odlazi u Austin, Texas. Snimio je desetak studijskih albuma od kojih se "I Hate These Songs", “Cheatin' Heart Attack”, “Blessed Or Damned”, “The Truckin Sessions Vol. 1 & 2”, “Dreamland”, “Whiskey Or God” “The Sun Sessions” i ovogodišnji “Dalevis” ubrajaju u najbolja djela country & western glazbe posljednjih dvadeset godina.
