Stari profesor Abronsius, koji izgledom podsjeća na Alberta Einsteina, i njegov plahi i povučeni učenik Alfred putuju u izmišljenu europsku zemlju Slovaniju, koja asocira na Transilvaniju, sa zadatkom pronalaženja i uništavanja vampira koji ugrožavaju tamošnje stanovništvo. No već po ulasku u lokalnu krčmu u jednom mjestu i pri susretu s mještanima, primijetit će njihovo neobično ponašanje. Oni, naime, izvode neke neobične rituale jer vjeruju da se tako mogu zaštititi od nevidljivog zla. No to je tek početak čudnovatih zgoda s kojima će se susresti profesor Abronsius i Alfred, pri čemu će profesor svojom znanstveničkom mirnoćom uspijevati smiriti mladića i stvari držati pod kontrolom. Sve će se dodatno zakomplicirati kad se Alfred zaljubi u privlačnu Sarah, kći gostioničara Shagala na koju je oko bacio i grof von Krolock. On je besmrtni vampirski aristokrat koji stoluje u nedalekom dvorcu i koji će ubrzo oteti Sarah, što će profesora i Alfreda prisiliti da krenu u akciju spašavanja djevojke. Za nevolju, u dvorcu će zateći veliki broj vampira koji će tijekom večeri organizirati zabavu u velikoj plesnoj dvorani zdanja.
